The Anchuvilakku, pillar of five lamps was installed more than 120 years ago in the memory of Pulikadu Ratnavelu Chettiar, ICS, who committed suicide in protest against the racial discrimination shown by his British bosses. It was erected under the initiative of Chinnaswamy Pillai, the first Municipal Chairman of Palakkad. He collected funds from the local community to preserve the memories of Chettiar, who fought against racism. This lamp post is situated in the heart of Palakkad Town.
